Switzerland’s Foreign Ministry announced the cancellation of talks that were scheduled to take place on Friday at the Bürgenstock resort between the US and Iran, aimed at reinforcing the agreement to end the conflict in the Middle East.
The decision followed US Vice President JD Vance’s withdrawal from plans to travel to Geneva.
A White House spokesperson said in a statement on Thursday evening that the logistics surrounding the negotiations had never been simple or predictable, adding that the US delegation was prepared to depart as soon as arrangements were finalized, Reuters reported.
There was no immediate response from Iran, which had previously stated its readiness to begin technical discussions following the 14-point agreement signed on Wednesday to extend the ceasefire for at least 60 days.
Meanwhile, Israel continues its military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon despite the US-Iran agreement, raising concerns over the durability of the truce.
