WASHINGTON — The U.S. military said late Friday it carried out a “lethal” strike against a vessel in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, claiming two suspected narco-traffickers were killed during the operation.United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) said intelligence identified the vessel as operating along known narcotics trafficking routes and allegedly taking part in smuggling activities.In a statement posted on X, SOUTHCOM said the strike was ordered by Commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan and executed by Joint Task Force Southern Spear.The command said the vessel was operated by what it described as a designated terrorist organization.“Two alleged male narco-terrorists were killed during this action,” the statement said.The strike comes amid expanded military operations in the Caribbean Sea and Eastern Pacific launched by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump since last September as part of anti-narcotics efforts.Authorities have said at least 163 people have been killed since the operations began.
