TEHRAN — Satellite imagery has revealed massive suspected oil slicks near Kharg Island, raising concerns over possible leaks in Gulf waters amid heightened regional tensions.According to Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, images captured between May 6 and 8 by the European Copernicus Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2 and Sentinel-3 satellites showed traces of apparent oil leaks west and southwest of the island.Comparisons between satellite images taken on April 18 and those from May 6 reportedly showed suspicious material spreading across the sea surface over several kilometers. The report said the images also revealed light-colored patches consistent with the visual characteristics of offshore oil spills in satellite imagery. The developments come amid rising tensions in and around the Strait of Hormuz following recent exchanges involving Iranian and US forces, increasing concerns over maritime security and global energy supplies. No official Iranian statement has yet been issued regarding the reported leaks.
