Oil prices were mixed on Friday, with both benchmark contracts on track to post their first weekly gain in three weeks following renewed geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Oman suspended oil-loading operations at the Mina Al Fahal terminal after an explosion reportedly caused by a drone attack, Reuters reported.

Haitham Al Ghais, secretary-general of OPEC, said the organization remains committed to its forecast for global oil demand growth of 1.2 million barrels per day this year despite the conflict in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Markets are awaiting the release later on Friday of the US oil and gas rig count from Baker Hughes for further clues on the outlook for US energy supplies.
