RIYADH — Saudi Aramco plans to bring six to seven gas and liquefied gas facilities into operation between 2025 and 2027 as part of its strategy to increase gas sales by 80% by 2030 compared with 2020–2021 levels.Abdulkarim Al-Ghamdi, Aramco’s executive vice president of gas, outlined the expansion plans during a panel discussion at the 25th WPC Energy Congress in Riyadh on Tuesday. He said the Kingdom is strengthening its gas production capabilities and associated infrastructure to meet growing demand and support the increasing role of natural gas in the energy mix.Al-Ghamdi highlighted the geographical distribution of Saudi Arabia’s oil production assets and export facilities, saying the diversified infrastructure strengthens the Kingdom’s ability to respond to disruptions and unexpected developments. He also pointed to Saudi Arabia’s extensive gas network, including the Master Gas System, which stretches thousands of kilometers across the Kingdom from east to west.Al-Ghamdi revealed that more than 90% of the materials required by Aramco during disruptions linked to global conflicts had been sourced locally, demonstrating the importance of domestic supply chains in maintaining operational continuity. He said the company also relies on strategic partnerships across several assets and facilities, including refineries and pipeline networks, to strengthen its operational capabilities.According to Al-Ghamdi, energy resilience extends beyond responding to crises after they occur. It requires anticipating potential disruptions, protecting critical assets, diversifying their geographical locations and ensuring they can continue operating under exceptional circumstances. He added that Aramco uses integrated operating systems, interconnected supply chains and advanced data analytics to protect facilities, minimize operational risks and reduce the likelihood of disruptions.
