Riyadh Air, the Public Investment Fund (PIF)-owned carrier, exercised purchase rights for six additional Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, increasing its firm orders for the model to 31, the airline said in a statement.
The carrier had previously ordered 60 Airbus A321 aircraft, bringing its total Airbus orders to 91. It also retains purchase rights for 19 additional A350 aircraft to support future expansion.
Riyadh Air said the A350-1000 will serve as the backbone of its long-haul fleet, connecting Riyadh with key destinations across Asia, Europe, Oceania, and North America, while offering advanced cabin technology, greater passenger comfort, and improved environmental performance.
In a separate statement, Riyadh Air and Boeing said the airline exercised its remaining options to purchase Boeing 787 aircraft and added more Boeing 787-10 jets to its fleet.
Under the agreement, the airline will receive 28 additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners, including the conversion of 20 previously optioned aircraft to the larger 787-10 variant, raising its total firm Dreamliner orders to 67 aircraft.
The expanded Boeing order will support Riyadh Air’s plan to connect the Saudi capital with more than 100 destinations worldwide by 2030 by providing additional range and capacity, the airline said.
Riyadh Air added that the Boeing 787-10 is expected to provide about 50 more seats than the 787-9 while reducing fuel consumption and emissions by 25% compared with older-generation aircraft.
