The number of bank branches operating in Saudi Arabia edged up to 1,915 during Q1 2026, compared to 1,910 by the end of 2025.

This stability in branch numbers coincides with banks’ accelerated digital transformation, as banking services via smart applications and online platforms now cover most customer needs. This reduced the need for expansion in traditional branches and lowering operating costs.

The number of bank branches in Saudi Arabia rose steadily between 2006 and 2017, from 1,289 to a peak of 2,076 in 2019. It then declined gradually between 2018 and 2023 before edging up slightly in 2024 and 2025 to stabilize at 1,910 branches.

Saudi National Bank (SNB) recorded the largest branch expansion in Q1 2026, adding four branches to reach a total of 485. In contrast, Arab National Bank (ANB) recorded the steepest decline, closing four branches and bringing its network down to 117.

Al Rajhi Bank remained the largest branch operator in the Kingdom with 512 branches, followed by SNB with 485 and Riyad Bank with 226.
