Ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz surged to its highest level since the outbreak of hostilities in the Middle East in late February, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran to end the conflict and reopen the strait.

Data from the company Kpler showed that at least 35 ships transited the strait on Monday, the highest daily number recorded since the end of February, according to AFP.

This figure represents about a third of the usual pre-war traffic, which averaged around 120 ships per day through the vital waterway.
