RIYADH — The Heritage Commission announced the registration of 1,414 new archaeological sites in the National Antiquities Register. This brings the total number of registered sites to 12,991, reflecting the diversity of the Kingdom’s cultural heritage and the broad scope of national efforts to survey and document archaeological sites. Registration is based on the Antiquities and Urban Heritage Law, and a Heritage Commission Board resolution granting the CEO authority to register archaeological and heritage sites.The commission affirmed that registration provides sites with regulatory protection, organizes research and excavation activities, supports urban planning efforts, and enhances cultural investment opportunities at qualifying sites in line with national initiatives to highlight the Kingdom’s civilizational assets.
