RIYADH — A total of 106 suspected cases of commercial cover-up were detected during inspection tours carried out during the last month of September. The violators were referred to the competent authorities for investigation before the imposition of deterrent penalties against those found guilty of the crime. The National Program to Combat Commercial Concealment has conducted a total of 1,861 inspection tours across Saudi Arabia during September, based on indications and evidence of suspected concealment activities.The inspection tours aimed to verify the compliance of regulations by the commercial establishments and detect violations of the Anti-Concealment Law. The inspections covered retail activities involving preserved fruits and vegetables, central markets for food and consumer goods, restaurants with catering services, retail sales of dates, cafeterias, and retail sales of electronic and household appliances. Penalties under the Anti-Concealment Law include imprisonment for up to five years, fine of up to SR5 million, and the seizure and confiscation of illicit funds following final judicial rulings against those involved.The subsidiary penalties prescribed by law also include closing the establishment, liquidating the activity, canceling the commercial registration, prohibiting the practice of commercial activity, collecting zakat, fees and taxes, publicizing the crime at the expense of the violator, and deporting the foreign violators from the Kingdom and prohibiting their return to the Kingdom for work.
