MARSEILLE — Air traffic at Marseille Provence Airport in southern France was disrupted Saturday after a critical weather system used to provide atmospheric pressure data to aircraft failed, French media reported.The failure was detected at around 6 a.m. local time at the airport in Marignane, near Marseille, according to airport authorities.An airport spokesperson described the system as “critical and vital” for aircraft landings and, depending on the aircraft and airline, departures, according to Actu Marseille.The cause of the failure was not immediately known.Airport authorities said operations had been gradually returning to normal since around 10 a.m. and advised passengers to check with their airlines for the latest information on their flights.Of the 35 flights scheduled to depart between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m., 21 took off, although with delays. Fourteen flights were still awaiting departure at around 11 a.m., according to French media reports.The disruption also affected arriving flights, with some aircraft diverted to Nice and Montpellier.An Air France flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle and another flight from Nantes were canceled.
