US President Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump escalated his rhetoric toward Iran, threatening to target the country’s power plants and bridges next week if Tehran does not return to the negotiating table, adding that the strikes will continue until he decides to halt them.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said the US would carry out “very severe” strikes in the coming days, adding that next week “will be the worst” for Iran if it does not show a willingness to negotiate.
Trump also declined to rule out the use of ground forces, although he said he does not want to pursue that option at this stage. He added that there are “other parties” capable of carrying out a ground campaign if necessary, without identifying them.
He further said that negotiations with Iran are still ongoing, but that his administration believes no meaningful progress can be made as long as Tehran continues to impose restrictions on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
