US President Trump has told his advisers he is dissatisfied with Iran’s latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the war, according to The New York Times, citing sources familiar with the discussions at the White House.

White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales said the US “will not negotiate through the press” and has “been clear about our red lines” as the Trump administration looks to end the war against ⁠Iran it began in February alongside Israel.

According to US and Iranian officials familiar with the details of the negotiations, the proposal called for the US to end its naval blockade in exchange for Iran dropping its nuclear program.

While the specific reasons for Trump’s rejection of the proposal remain unclear, he has reiterated his firm stance that Iran cannot be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.
