RIYADH — The General Directorate of Traffic has clarified that a periodic inspection is not required before scrapping damaged vehicles. It confirmed that vehicle owners can hand over their vehicles to the nearest authorized junkyard to complete the scrapping process. The clarification came in response to an inquiry about the procedure for scrapping damaged vehicles that owners no longer use and that have remained unused for years, and whether a periodic inspection is required before proceeding with the scrapping process. In its response, the General Directorate of Traffic confirmed that “the vehicles can be handed over to the nearest authorized junkyard,” clarifying the procedure available to vehicle owners wishing to scrap their damaged vehicles and addressing whether a periodic inspection is necessary beforehand. The clarification enables owners of damaged vehicles to better understand the procedure for disposing of them, with the Traffic Directorate’s response indicating that vehicles can be handed over to an authorized junkyard without the need for a prior periodic inspection.
