Unity Software, a provider of video game development software, has recently held talks over a potential acquisition by an investor consortium including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and private equity firm Silver Lake Partners, Reuters reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
The consortium discussed a valuation of around $25 billion before Unity Software’s latest earnings report lifted its market capitalization to approximately $21.5 billion.
Silver Lake, which owns about 8% of Unity Software, and PIF approached the company in recent weeks, the sources said.
Unity Software is working with an investment bank to evaluate its options following the approaches. However, no deal has been finalized, and the plans and terms could still change, they added.
Unity Software shares rose around 4% in after-hours trading following the Reuters report.
The potential acquisition would mark another major gaming investment for PIF and Silver Lake, which were part of the consortium that took Electronic Arts, the developer of the EA Sports FC franchise, private in a $55 billion deal completed in August.
According to Argaam data, Electronic Arts announced in August 2026 the completion of its acquisition by an investor consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s PIF and comprising Silver Lake and Affinity Partners.
Shareholders received $210 per share, while the company’s shares were suspended from trading and its Nasdaq listing was canceled, making it a privately held company owned by the consortium.
