Sanjeev Kapoor, Executive Vice President of Strategy at Saudia Group, which includes Saudia and flyadeal, and Acting CEO of flyadeal, said the group has made significant progress on plans to place a major aircraft order, having completed an assessment of the number of aircraft it will require.

Kapoor said, according to Bloomberg, that the group aims to take delivery of the aircraft between 2031 and 2040, but has yet to decide whether to place the order in a single batch or in multiple tranches.

The request-for-proposals process will begin once the group’s board approves the order, Kapoor said, referring to the tender process.

He noted that some of the aircraft to be ordered will be used to expand the fleet, while others will replace older aircraft.

According to data available with Argaam, Bloomberg reported in February, citing sources, that Saudia Group was in preliminary talks with Boeing and Airbus over an order for at least 150 narrowbody and widebody aircraft.

The group said in May that it is scheduled to receive a total of 15 A321XLR aircraft through 2027.
