BORDEAUX — The Saudi National math team won three international awards at the 2026 European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO), beating out nearly 263 other students. Held in Bordeaux, France, from April 9 to 15, the EGMO — an annual international competition open to female high school students — had 65 countries participate this round, with three students from the Saudi team coming out on top. The awards included two bronze medals won by Al-Batool Al-Eidaroos from the Madinah Education Directorate and Tala Talba from the Eastern Province Education Directorate. Fatimah Al-Marhoon, also from the Eastern Province Education Directorate, received an honorable mention. With this achievement, Saudi Arabia’s total tally at the EGMO rises to 39 international awards, including 2 gold medals, 7 silver medals, 17 bronze medals, and 13 honorable mentions, achieved across 14 participations since 2012, when the first edition was held at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. Implemented by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) — in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education — this participation comes as part of the Mawhiba International Olympiad Program. The participation and its results reflect Mawhiba’s continued efforts to prepare and qualify students for global scientific competitions through intensive training programs, specialized camps, and competitive events that develop advanced mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills.
