GASTAT says decline in IPI index due to decrease in mining quarrying activity, and manufacturing.

Saudi Arabia’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) declined as much as 19.1% to 84.9 points in April 2026 (base year 2021), from 104.9 points in the same month a year earlier, General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) data showed.

The authority also said that the decline in the IPI index was the result of a decrease in mining and quarrying activity, as well as manufacturing activity.

The IPI is an economic indicator that reflects the relative changes and development in the volume of industrial production quantities, based on data from the industrial production survey, which includes establishments operating in mining activities, manufacturing, and utilities supply.

The mining and quarrying activity declined by 29.9% YoY during April 2026.

Meanwhile, manufacturing activity was down by 6.1% YoY, hurt by a decline in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products activity that fell 18.7%, and the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products activity that slipped 4.2%.
