Saudi banks’ investments in treasury bonds increased by about SAR 38.7 billion, or 6%, on a yearly basis.
Saudi banks’ investments in treasury bonds rose to SAR 676 billion in August, an increase of SAR 5.1 billion from the previous month, according to data from the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA).
On a yearly basis, these investments increased by about SAR 38.7 billion, or 6%.
Investments in government bonds accounted for over 71% of banks’ total claims on the government and quasi-government sectors in Saudi Arabia during the period.
Total banking claims on the public sector reached SAR 953.1 billion, compared to SAR 871.3 billion in August 2025.
These investments include both government long-term debt instruments issued by the Ministry of Finance, as well as internationally issued bonds and sukuk purchased by banks from the secondary market. SAMA T-bills were excluded as per the international standards.
