RIYADH — Saudi Arabia reiterated its rejection and condemnation of any attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz or disrupt international waterways, stressing that freedom of navigation is a fundamental principle protected under international law.Representing Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji delivered the remarks during a virtual meeting involving foreign ministers from the MED9, the Arab League, and Western Balkan partner countries.Elkhereiji warned that ongoing regional tensions are beginning to impact global food security systems through disruptions to fertilizer movement and essential food supplies. He stressed the need to shield food and fertilizer supplies from pressures or actions that could obstruct the flow of critical goods under any circumstances. The deputy foreign minister reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting market stability, ensuring secure supply chains, and maintaining the smooth flow of regional and international trade by strengthening logistics connectivity and cooperation in transport, storage, and supply chain resilience.“These challenges require collective coordination to protect maritime corridors,” Elkhereiji said, emphasizing the need for practical steps to improve access to essential supplies and reinforce regional and international stability.
