Riyadh’s public transport network recorded nearly half a billion passengers in less than two years since operations began, said Rumaih bin Mohammed Al-Rumaih, Vice Minister of Transport and Logistic Services.
The network includes Riyadh Metro, which has 85 stations, alongside a bus network powered by a mix of electricity and conventional fuels.
Speaking during a panel discussion at the 25th World Energy Congress 2026 in Riyadh, Al-Rumaih said the airport sector is implementing several public-private partnership (PPP) projects, including Madinah Airport, while projects for Taif, Qassim and Abha airports have been put out to tender. He added that the Abha Airport project has reached a very advanced stage in the contract award process.
