DOHA — Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani called on all parties to respond to Pakistan-led mediation efforts aimed at ending the conflict between the United States and Iran during a phone call on Sunday with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.According to a statement issued by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X, Sheikh Mohammed stressed “the need for all parties to respond to these efforts in order to create the appropriate conditions for progress in the negotiations, leading to a comprehensive agreement that achieves sustainable peace in the region.”The Qatari prime minister also expressed Doha’s “full” support for Islamabad’s mediation efforts, saying they had contributed to reaching a ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.During the call, the two leaders also reviewed bilateral relations and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation between Qatar and Pakistan, the ministry added.Regional tensions have sharply escalated since the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran on Feb. 28, triggering attacks by Tehran against Israel and US allies in the Gulf region, as well as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.A ceasefire took effect on April 8 through Pakistani mediation efforts, but negotiations held later in Islamabad failed to produce a permanent agreement. The truce was subsequently extended by US President Donald Trump without a specified deadline, keeping diplomatic channels open for a broader settlement to the conflict.
