RIYADH — Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah affirmed that Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the fourth edition of the UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (GFEAI 2026) reflects the advanced position the Kingdom has attained on the international stage in supporting global dialogue on emerging technologies. It also underscores the Kingdom’s firm commitment to promoting the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence in ways that serve humanity and advance sustainable development. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and Saudi Arabia—represented by the Saudi Data & AI Authority (SDAIA) and the International Centre for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE)— co-host the forum from 14 to 17 September 2026 in Riyadh. The event coincides with Saudi Arabia’s designated Year of Artificial Intelligence and runs alongside the Global AI Summit 2026. Prince Badr said that the partnership between the SDAIA and the UNESCO, in cooperation with the ICAIRE, represents a model of international collaboration in developing policies and practices related to the ethics of artificial intelligence. The partnership also contributes to the exchange of expertise and capacity building among countries. Prince Badr, who is also president of the Saudi National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, said that the commission is committed to supporting national initiatives that strengthen the Kingdom’s presence in international organizations and enhance cooperation with UNESCO in priority areas.He emphasized that the forum will provide a global platform bringing together decision-makers, experts, and researchers to exchange perspectives and develop practical solutions that contribute to establish the principles of good governance in artificial intelligence.The minister noted that hosting the forum in Riyadh reflects the Kingdom’s growing role in supporting high-quality international initiatives and strengthening its position as a global hub for dialogue and cooperation in the fields of data and artificial intelligence. This aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and contributes to building a more responsible, inclusive, and sustainable digital future.
