The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) on Dec. 10 appointed Haitham Al Ghais for a second three-year term as its secretary general.
Al Ghais’s new term will begin in August 2025, according to a press release issued following the 189th meeting of the OPEC Conference.
The participants expressed gratitude for Al Ghais’s distinguished achievements over the past two years.
They also welcomed the new ministers, Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad, Kuwait’s Tariq Sulaiman Al-Roumi and Venezuela’s Delcy Rodriguez.
The ministers decided to hold the next OPEC meeting on May 28, 2025. They also noted that next September will mark the 65th anniversary of the organization’s foundation in Baghdad in 1960 and the 60th anniversary of moving the secretariat to Vienna.
