PERTH — A 38-year-old man died after being attacked by a shark off Rottnest Island in Western Australia, local media reported on Saturday.Emergency officials said the victim was airlifted by rescue helicopter to a hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries, according to local broadcaster SBS News.Police Sergeant Michael Wear of the Rottnest Island Police Station said the man suffered horrific injuries and had been bitten on the lower legs. The incident was one of four shark attacks recorded over a two-day period, prompting authorities to close dozens of beaches in the area as a precaution. The latest fatality marks the third recent shark-related death reported in the region.Rottnest Island is one of Western Australia’s most popular tourist destinations, attracting swimmers, divers and holidaymakers throughout the year.Australian scientists believe increasingly crowded coastal waters and rising ocean temperatures may be influencing shark migration patterns and contributing to a rise in shark encounters and attacks.
