BEIRUT — Israeli warplanes launched fresh airstrikes on several towns in southern Lebanon on Sunday, while artillery shelling targeted other areas, in the latest reported violations of a US-brokered agreement signed in June.Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that Israeli fighter jets bombed the town of Kfar Tebnit in the Nabatieh district. In the Tyre district, Israeli warplanes struck the town of Mansouri, while artillery fire targeted Majdal Zoun, according to the agency.Heavy Israeli artillery shelling also struck the area between Mayfadoun and Zawtar Al-Sharqiyah overnight, with the agency describing the bombardment as intense and concentrated. The attacks came amid Israel’s ongoing military offensive against Lebanon, which began on March 2 and has killed 4,386 people and injured 12,413 others, according to the latest figures released by Lebanon’s Health Ministry. On June 26, Lebanon and Israel signed a US-brokered framework agreement in Washington providing for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the deployment of the Lebanese army in areas vacated by Israeli forces.Despite the agreement, Israeli forces have continued carrying out strikes in southern Lebanon and remain deployed in parts of Lebanese territory, including areas occupied for decades and others seized during more recent military operations.
