TEHRAN — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Sunday there was no military solution to the conflict with the United States and that further sanctions would not end the war, calling instead for a negotiated settlement.“There is no military solution and no solution based on more sanctions,” Araghchi told foreign ambassadors based in Tehran, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.“Only a solution grounded in negotiations, justice, and diplomatic dignity can address the situation and provide a final resolution to end this war and the unlawful aggression that has been launched against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said.Araghchi warned that Iran was prepared to respond with greater force if Washington pursued further military action. If the United States resorts to military action, Tehran is ready to take all necessary measures to “defend ourselves with even more force,” he said. The United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran on Feb. 28. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks across the region and closed the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route for global energy supplies. The US military subsequently imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports.Diplomatic efforts to end the conflict have continued since a June 18 framework agreement aimed at paving the way for a final settlement covering navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear program.
