RIYADH — Under the Green Riyadh Program, 15,000 native trees and shrubs have been planted in Shayb Ghudwanah, reducing temperatures by approximately 5°C compared to the rest of the city. The initiative has transformed Shayb Ghudwanah, one of the tributaries of Wadi Hanifah, into a natural summer destination. In addition to planting trees and shrubs, the tributary underwent comprehensive environmental rehabilitation, including the development of a 5-kilometer natural park featuring 22 kilometers of walking tracks, seating areas, pedestrian bridges, children’s play areas, and sports facilities. The project reflects the Green Riyadh Program’s goals of enhancing quality of life, increasing vegetation cover, and transforming natural valleys into sustainable urban destinations.
