BRUSSELS — European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas strongly condemned the Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, describing it as an “appalling act of terror” and reaffirming the EU’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia. In a statement posted on X, Kallas denounced attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, stressing that such violence could not be justified. “The Houthi attack on Riyadh’s international airport is an appalling act of terror. There can be no justification for indiscriminate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure,” Kallas said. “The EU stands in solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We offer our deepest condolences to the families of those killed, and we wish the injured a swift recovery.” Kallas also said she remained in close contact with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan amid escalating regional tensions. The EU foreign policy chief added that the EU Foreign Ministers “will discuss the escalating tensions in the region on Monday.” “Enhanced coordination between the EU’s Red Sea naval operation Aspides and the Saudi-led Multinational Maritime Defence Coalition is vital,” Kallas said, stressing the importance of stronger maritime security coordination.
