Consumer spending in Saudi Arabia increased to SAR 141.8 billion in May, up 6% from nearly SAR 134.1 billion in May 2025.
Consumer spending in the Kingdom includes total cash withdrawals, point-of-sale (POS) transactions, and e-commerce sales through the Mada network.
According to monthly data from the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA), POS sales in Saudi Arabia rose by 6% year-on-year (YoY) to about SAR 63.1 billion in May.
The data showed that these sales were conducted through 1.103 billion transactions across 2.5 million POS terminals.
POS transactions represent consumer spending using debit and credit cards at shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, and other outlets.
Meanwhile, cash withdrawals from ATMs rose by around 7% YoY to approximately SAR 44 billion in May.
These withdrawals were made through 14,500 ATMs operated by banks and the Saudi network across 145 million transactions. The total number of issued bank cards reached 68.5 million.
E-commerce sales via Mada cards surged to SAR 34.7 billion in May, up 27% YoY.
According to SAMA data, these transactions were carried out through 198.3 million operations.
E-commerce sales via Mada cards include transactions made through online shopping websites and applications using Mada cards, and exclude transactions conducted via Visa, Mastercard, and other credit cards.
