Saudi National Shipping Co. (Bahri) transported an ammonia cargo through the Strait of Hormuz for the first time since July, aboard its vessel Gas Aqua.
According to SP Global’s Commodities at Sea data, Gas Aqua loaded 25,000 metric tons of ammonia at Ras Al Khair, Saudi Arabia, between Oct. 3 and 6. The vessel arrived in Fujairah in the Gulf of Oman on Oct. 9 before transferring its entire cargo to Cerambler in Oman on Oct. 11-12.
Gas Aqua was the first vessel not linked to Iran to enter the Arabian Gulf to load ammonia since the Iran war began in February, the report said. The shipment also marked the first ammonia cargo to transit the strait since an Iranian shipment passed through in July.
Three ammonia cargoes not linked to Iran had previously transited the strait since the war began, including two loaded in Saudi Arabia and one in Qatar. The vessels carrying those shipments were already inside the Gulf when the war broke out.
