Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is meeting with mediators in New York today, Sept. 28, to discuss recent proposals and efforts to resume negotiations with the United States, according to the semi-official Iranian news agency ISNA.
According to the agency, Iran has proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz as part of an agreement aimed at ending the war, in exchange for the release of Iranian funds and assets that Tehran says were frozen illegally.
The proposal was conveyed to the United States through mediators in New York. However, President Donald Trump rejected the proposal over the weekend.
Tehran, meanwhile, said that indirect contacts with Washington and mediation efforts are continuing.
