Combined crude production by OPEC’s 11 member countries declined to 19.71 million bpd in August
The total output from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) fell significantly in August 2026 amid escalating geopolitical challenges in the Middle East, a survey conducted by Reuters showed. 
The combined crude production by OPEC’s 11 member countries declined by 640,000 barrels per day (bpd) month-on-month to 19.71 million bpd.
Despite a prior agreement among seven members of the OPEC+ alliance to increase production levels starting in August, the widening regional conflict hindered these plans from being implemented.
The decline in output highlights the vulnerability of oil markets to geopolitical shocks, suggesting that supply constraints and higher prices could persist amid disruptions to shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
