Russia, Ukraine trade strikes on industrial and port facilities

KYIV — Russia and Ukraine traded large-scale overnight strikes on Saturday, targeting industrial, port and military-linked facilities, as both sides reported casualties and damage across several regions.In Russia, Samara Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said Ukraine carried out a missile strike on an unspecified industrial facility, prompting authorities to deploy emergency services and assess casualties and damage.Samara Mayor Ivan Noskov said the city’s industrial infrastructure sustained “localized damage” and that medical assistance was provided to those injured.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Progress Center, a major enterprise linked to Russia’s Roscosmos space agency in the Samara region, was struck using Ukrainian Flamingo missiles.Zelenskyy also claimed strikes on the Savasleyka air base in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region and said Kyiv had received confirmation of damage to an oil facility in Ust-Luga in the northern Leningrad region.Russian authorities did not immediately comment on those specific claims.Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defenses intercepted 598 Ukrainian drones overnight across 19 regions, as well as over the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov and Crimea.Moscow, meanwhile, said its forces struck Ukrainian port infrastructure, including a warehouse at the port of Pivdennyi, a patrol boat and warehouse at the port of Odesa, and infrastructure at the port of Izmail. Russia claimed the targets were involved in supporting Ukraine’s armed forces.In Ukraine’s Odesa region, Governor Oleh Kiper said strikes hit the grounds of a shoe factory, damaging warehouses and a canteen and starting fires. Fires were also reported at an inactive enterprise and an abandoned residential building. No casualties were initially reported.In Zaporizhzhia, Governor Ivan Fedorov said Russian drones targeted a shopping center and an industrial facility. Five people were later reported injured in morning strikes.A 3-month-old baby was killed and 11 people were injured after a Russian drone struck a multi-story residential building in Marhanets, Dnipropetrovsk Governor Oleksandr Hanzha said.Ukraine’s Air Force said its defenses shot down 124 of 152 drones launched by Russia overnight.Russia and Ukraine have increasingly targeted each other’s logistics hubs and port, industrial and energy infrastructure as the war continues. Both sides deny deliberately targeting civilians, saying their strikes are aimed at military targets or facilities supporting military operations.
