Saudi Arabia launches AI incentives offering up to SR500,000 for cultural projects

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia has launched a new funding initiative offering non-repayable grants of up to SR500,000 per project to help cultural enterprises adopt and develop artificial intelligence technologies.The Cultural Development Fund (CDF) announced the launch of the AI Incentives for Cultural Projects in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and the Quality of Life Program, and in collaboration with the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA).The initiative is the first track under the CDF’s Numou Incentives, designed to support cultural projects in priority areas aligned with national objectives.The program will support up to 20 cultural projects, with a maximum of one project per enterprise. It targets micro, small and medium-sized enterprises seeking to adopt AI technologies or develop AI-powered solutions within their projects.Applications are open to projects at different stages of development, ranging from viable concepts and prototypes to existing ventures seeking to expand.The initiative covers six key areas across the cultural value chain, including creativity and production; preservation of heritage and cultural assets; content and knowledge enrichment; cultural experiences and engagement; project management and operations; and governance and intellectual property.The fund said the initiative aims to encourage innovative solutions, accelerate digital transformation across the cultural sector and strengthen the economic and social impact and long-term sustainability of cultural enterprises.The launch comes during Saudi Arabia’s Year of Artificial Intelligence 2026, as the cultural sector witnesses growing adoption of advanced technologies. The Ministry of Culture and its affiliated commissions have also introduced competitions and hackathons aimed at attracting talent and developing new applications of AI across cultural fields.CDF CEO Majed Al-Hogail said the initiative reflects a strategic drive to enable the cultural sector to harness advanced technologies as an engine for innovation and growth.“We believe that employing artificial intelligence in cultural projects will contribute to developing more valuable products, services and experiences, while opening new horizons for investment and entrepreneurship,” Al-Hogail said.He added that the initiative would enhance the sector’s sustainability and increase its contribution to the creative economy.Eligible projects may operate across Saudi Arabia’s cultural sectors, including architecture and design, culinary arts, fashion, film, libraries, heritage, museums, music, literature, publishing and translation, visual arts, theater and performing arts.Applications will be evaluated based on their cultural impact, financial sustainability, level of technological innovation, implementation readiness, scalability and potential to maximize impact.Projects must also comply with Saudi regulations and relevant AI ethics principles, including fairness and integrity, reliability and safety, transparency and explainability, accountability, privacy and security.The Cultural Development Fund invited enterprises seeking to develop technological solutions or AI-powered cultural products, services and experiences to review the program’s requirements and submit applications.Applications will remain open until the end of September, with projects undergoing an assessment process to identify the solutions with the strongest potential for innovation and impact on Saudi Arabia’s cultural landscape.
