Oil prices surged in early session today, July 13, amid growing concerns about global energy supplies as threats persist in the Strait of Hormuz and renewed military strikes between the US and Iran. 
The US Central Command carried out a new wave of strikes against multiple targets inside Iran on Sunday, while the Iranian Revolutionary Guard launched attacks today targeting US military bases, Reuters reported.
Ship tracking data from Kpler indicated that only six ships crossed the strait on July 12, the lowest level of shipping traffic in the past five weeks.
