DAMASCUS — French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to visit Syria to hold talks with President Ahmed al-Sharaa on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest, Syria’s presidential media directorate said on Sunday.In a statement carried by the state-run SANA news agency, the directorate said Macron will be accompanied by a delegation of investors and representatives of French companies.According to the statement, Macron and Al-Sharaa will hold a roundtable meeting with their respective delegations during the visit.The Syrian authorities did not specify the date of the trip.If the visit takes place, it will mark the first visit by a French president to Syria since the fall of the Bashar al-Assad government in late 2024.
