Gold prices fell on Friday as the dollar traded near a six-week high, with investors increasingly expecting the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates amid persistently elevated oil prices that continue to fuel inflationary pressures.

The administration of US President Donald Trump announced that Kevin Warsh is set to be sworn in as Federal Reserve chair later today at the White House, according to Reuters.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which tracks the US currency against a basket of six major peers, was little changed at 99.23 as of 08:29 am KSA time.

Markets are also awaiting the University of Michigan’s final reading of US consumer sentiment later today, after the preliminary May reading fell to 48.2 from 49.8 in April, while inflation expectations eased to 4.5% from 4.7% the previous month.
