China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it will not be swayed by the United States’ ongoing “numbers game” on tariffs, following a statement from the White House indicating that Chinese imports could face tariffs of up to 245% in response to Beijing’s retaliatory measures.
According to a fact sheet issued by the White House this week, the total tariffs on Chinese imports include 125% in reciprocal duties, a 20% tariff aimed at addressing the fentanyl crisis, and additional duties ranging between 7.5% and 100% on selected goods to counter unfair trade practices.
In response, China imposed retaliatory tariffs of its own amid the intensifying trade war, calling for dialogue while reaffirming that any negotiations must be based on mutual respect and equality.
Last week,Chinafiled a new complaint with the World Trade Organization(WTO), expressing deep concern over the US tariffs and accusing Washington of breaching WTO rules.
