Officials at Heathrow Airport said today, March 21, that the airport will be closed until midnight after experiencing a significant power outage due to a fire at a nearby electrical substation supplying the airport, CNBC reported.

A spokesperson for the UK’s biggest airport said disruption id expected to affect hundreds of flights.

The London Fire Brigade said its crews was tackling the fire in Hayes in west London and had evacuated around 150 people as a precaution.

Heathrow Airport handles approximately 1,300 flight take-offs and landings daily, according to its official website. Last year, it welcomed a record 83.9 million passengers, marking an increase of nearly 6% compared to 2023.
