20 tons of spoiled food destroyed in Jeddah

JEDDAH — The Jeddah Mayoralty destroyed approximately 20 tons of spoiled food deemed unfit for human consumption during a joint field campaign carried out in the eastern part of the city.Conducted in collaboration with several relevant authorities, the campaign led to the closure of an unlicensed pastry and sweets factory operating from a site that failed to comply with health and municipal regulations. Yasser bin Siraj Bakhsh, director general of Monitoring and Addressing Negative Phenomena at the mayoralty, stated that field inspection teams identified an unlicensed factory operating within a residential building. The facility was producing various types of pastries and sweets in conditions that lacked even the most basic health requirements. Inspectors also discovered spoiled raw materials and food products, some of which were being stored under direct sunlight. In addition, worn-out and unsuitable tools and equipment were found in use, alongside other violations related to food preparation and processing practices. He added that all food products found at the site were destroyed due to their unfitness for human consumption, together with the equipment and tools used in production and processing. The facility was fully shut down pending the completion of legal procedures against those responsible.These efforts form part of the Jeddah Mayoralty’s ongoing initiatives to monitor and combat illegal activities that pose risks to public health and consumer safety, while curbing unregulated practices within residential neighborhoods.
