US President Donald Trump has nominated former Federal Reserve governor Kevin Warsh to lead the central bank, succeeding Jerome Powell, whose term ends in May.

In a post on Truth Social on Friday, Trump said Warsh has extensive experience in economics and finance, previously represented the Federal Reserve at the G20, and held supervisory and administrative roles on the Fed’s Board of Governors.

Trump added that Warsh played a prominent advisory role on international monetary policy. He issued an Independent Report to the Bank of England proposing reforms in the conduct on monetary policy in the UK.

Trump’s nomination put an end to weeks of speculation on Wall Street over Powell’s successor, amid continued pressure from the president on the central bank to cut interest rates, even after three consecutive rate cuts in the second half of 2025.
