US crude oil inventories increased at a higher-than-predicted pace in the week ended Oct. 3, reflecting tighter energy demand in the US.

According to a report released by the Energy Information Administration (EIA), crude oil inventories added 3.7 million barrels last week, reaching 420.3 million in total.

This exceeded forecasts for a 700,000-barrel hike in crude stockpiles.

In contrast, during the same week, gasoline stocks shed 1.6 million barrels, with distillate stocks, which includes diesel and heating oil, also losing two million barrels.
