New 10% global tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump take effect on Tuesday
New 10% global tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump took effect on Tuesday, as the White House moved to preserve the president’s trade agenda after the Supreme Court struck down his earlier sweeping duties.
Hours after the court’s ruling, Trump signed an executive order on Friday authorizing the 10% tariff.
He later threatened to raise the rate to 15%, but had not issued a formal directive on the increase as of Tuesday morning, when the tariffs came into force.
A US administration official told Bloomberg that the White House is working on a formal order to lift the global tariff rate to 15%.
