US President Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump called on Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, ramping up pressure on Tehran ahead of talks aimed at turning a fragile ceasefire into a lasting peace agreement.
“There are reports that Iran is charging fees to tankers going through the Hormuz Strait — They better not be and, if they are, they better stop now!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
In another post, he demanded reopening the waterway, saying: “That’s not the deal we had. You will see oil flowing, with or without Iran’s help — and for me, it makes no difference.”
US and Iranian delegations are scheduled to meet in Pakistan on Saturday, with navigation through Hormuz seen as a key point of contention.
In a phone interview with NBC News, Trump described Iran’s leaders as more rational than their public statements suggest.
