Trump introduced the project, spearheaded by America First Refining, on his social media platform Truth Social, calling it a “A MASSIVE WIN for American Workers, Energy, and the GREAT People of South Texas.”

He said the new refinery would support US markets, enhance national security, increase domestic energy production, and generate billions of dollars in economic benefits. Trump also thanked Reliance for the substantial investment.

If completed, the refinery would be the first major US refining project since 1977.

The announcement comes amid volatility in energy markets caused by the war with Iran and as the White House seeks ways to curb rising crude oil prices.
