The Saudi Water Authority announced that it recorded its highest annual financial savings since launching its initiative to reduce the cost of producing desalinated water. Savings reached SAR 3.3 billion in 2024, bringing the total accumulated savings over the past five years to more than SAR 10.9 billion.
This growth resulted from continuous improvements in operational and capital cost efficiency, enhanced performance of production units, reduced energy consumption, strengthened operational control mechanisms, and expanded use of data and research to optimize workflows, the authority stated.
It added that it cooperated with the Expenditure Projects Efficiency Authority (EXPRO) in implementing the initiative, aiming to improve the efficiency and performance of the water production system in the medium and long term.
The authority further said that these indicators confirm that the water sector is moving toward a more efficient path, with greater ability to manage its resources and operations, ensuring continuous enhancements in both cost and service quality.
