The project is a key initiative aimed at localizing the production of diabetes drugs in Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, Sudair Pharma said the plant seeks to ensure the continuity of medicine supplies and reduction of reliance on imports amid global supply challenges.

With an estimated 700,000 patients in the Kingdom requiring insulin, the facility is set to play a crucial role in meeting demand, the company noted.

The plant is expected to produce over 15 million insulin pens annually, covering the needs of more than 500,000 patients in the first year, representing 70% of the total patients requiring this essential medicine in Saudi Arabia.

The ministry stated that the facility aligns with the Kingdom’s efforts to localize 85% of government healthcare sector insulin needs, valued at approximately SAR 1.3 billion annually.
