NEW YORK — Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, participated in a ministerial-level UN Security Council session on the situation in Sudan, reaffirming the Kingdom’s support for Sudan’s unity and sovereignty.Addressing the Council, Alwasil stressed the importance of intensified international efforts to reach a humanitarian truce and a comprehensive political solution that would end the crisis.He condemned the criminal attacks carried out by the Rapid Support Forces on the Al-Kuwaik Military Hospital, a World Food Programme convoy, and a bus carrying displaced civilians using drones.He underscored that targeting civilians, facilities and humanitarian infrastructure constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law and undermines relief and response efforts.Alwasil reviewed Saudi Arabia’s efforts since the outbreak of the conflict to halt the war through the Jeddah negotiations and coordination with sisterly and friendly countries, foremost among them the United States.He expressed appreciation for the efforts of the U.S. administration and its envoy Massad Boulos.He also emphasized the role of the Quartet mechanism, regional organizations and the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, in supporting a Sudanese-led political process that would lead to a sustainable solution meeting the aspirations of the Sudanese people.Alwasil noted that Saudi Arabia’s assistance to Sudan has reached approximately $3.1 billion, reaffirming the Kingdom’s firm commitment to supporting Sudan and its people.
