Saudi Arabia and the United States signed several agreements during the Saudi-US Summit, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Prime Minister, and US President Donald Trump at the White House.
The summit reviewed bilateral relations and joint efforts to advance the strategic partnership between the two countries across various sectors, in addition to discussing regional and international developments, ways to enhance security and stability at the regional and global levels, and other topics of mutual interest.
At the conclusion of the summit, the Crown Prince and the US President signed the Strategic Defense Agreement.
The agreement affirmed that Saudi Arabia and the United States were security partners capable of working jointly to address regional and international challenges and threats. It deepened long-term defense coordination, enhanced deterrence capabilities and readiness, and strengthened the development and integration of defense capabilities between both sides.
It also set a solid framework for a sustained and ongoing defense partnership that contributed to the security and stability of both countries. Trump announced Saudi Arabia’s official designation as a Major Non-NATO Ally.
Several additional agreements and memorandums were signed between the two sides, including the Strategic Partnership for Artificial Intelligence, the Joint Statement on completing negotiations on cooperation in civil nuclear energy, and the strategic framework for partnership on securing supply chains for uranium, minerals, permanent magnets and critical minerals.
The two countries also signed the agreement to facilitate procedures for accelerating Saudi investments, the financial and economic partnership arrangements for economic prosperity, and the arrangements related to cooperation in the capital market authorities sector. A memorandum of understanding in education and training was signed, in addition to letters concerning vehicle safety standards.
